John E. Vigars Kent Church Photographs

That master of space, James Brooks, designed one of the little known but outstanding Kent churches, the Annunciation, Chislehurst. The lofty interior is dominated by the Westlake-designed mosaic, made by Salviati, which presides over the chancel arch. It dates from 1890. Westlake also designed stained glass here, both on his own and as a partner with Lavers and Barraud. The patrons are Keble College, ensuring that the Anglo Catholic origins of the parish are maintained.
